Tanya Hiner P#2278

Effective Monday, October 5, HPD’s new Criminalistics Administrator is Tanya Hiner, P#2278, filling the vacancy created by Rick Workman's retirement in May 2020. 

 

Joining HPD in 2016, Tanya currently serves as a Forensic Scientist II, specializing in Latent Print, Footwear, and Tire Track examination. Before joining the City of Henderson, Tanya worked for the Kansas City Missouri Police Department (KCPD) for sixteen years, both in crime scene investigation and the crime laboratory, also serving as Acting Supervisor for the Latent Print Section for two years before leaving KCPD. 

 

Tanya is a Certified Latent Print Examiner (CLPE), certified Footwear Examiner (CFWE), and Certified Senior Crime Scene Analyst (CSCSA) with the International Association for Identification (IAI). She is a current member of the American Academy of Forensic Sciences (AAFS) and the International Association for Identification (IAI). She was a certified instructor by the Missouri Peace Officers Standards and Training (POST) and provided annual instruction at the Kansas City Police Academy, Kansas City Police Detective School, Kansas City Police Citizen's Police Academy, and other specialized training programs. Ms. Hiner is a past president of the Missouri IAI and a current Secretary of the IAI Footwear Certification Board.

 

During her tenure with the KCPD, Tanya received numerous awards and commendations as well as being named the recipient of the 2009 Robert D. Olsen, Sr. Award presented by the Kansas Division of the International Association for Identification (KDIAI).  

 

Tanya holds a Bachelor's degree in Justice with a minor in Biological Sciences from the University of Alaska, and a Master of Science (MS) degree in Forensic Science from the University of New Haven. She is currently working toward a Ph.D. in Human Services - Criminal Justice, with an emphasis in Forensic Science.
